Get to Know Sarah
Meet Sarah Gauthier, an MFT Intern dedicated to fostering personal wholeness and flourishing in her clients. Currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy at Colorado Christian University, Sarah brings a holistic, evidence-based approach to her therapeutic practice. Her education and clinical interests span a broad spectrum, including infertility, adoption, prenatal/neonatal loss, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, chronic illness, military and first responder-related trauma, complex-PTSD, and women's health issues.

Sarah employs an integrative therapeutic approach rooted in Family Systems Theory, complemented by techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She believes that change occurs through vulnerability and connection, emphasizing the importance of safe vulnerability and healthy boundaries in facilitating healing and growth in relationships.

As a former Army child and spouse, Sarah possesses a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by military personnel and first responders and their families. She is incredibly passionate about supporting this community, especially in processing experiences like deployment, separations, trauma, and significant transitions. Additionally, Sarah is devoted to providing a space for individuals to address often-taboo topics such as miscarriage and pregnancy loss, as well as helping adults navigate complex childhood wounds toward emotional balance.

Sarah's personal life is enriched by her Christian faith, which she integrates into her practice when appropriate, while remaining open and respectful to all belief systems. She thrives on fostering relationships with individuals whose values differ from her own, embodying her belief in the "indomitable courage of quite small people against impossible odds," a quote by Humphrey Carpenter about JRR Tolkien’s observations, which she finds inspirational in her work.

Outside the therapy room, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and family, training her rescue pup, Stella, and engaging in a variety of activities from outdoor adventures to baking and cooking. She is an avid fan of JRR Tolkien, adding a layer of depth and creativity to her personal and professional life.

Sarah’s commitment to her clients and community extends through her volunteer work, including roles as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children, a disaster responder for the Red Cross, and a volunteer for local organizations in Washington. Her diverse experiences and compassionate approach make her a valuable asset to those seeking support and change.
